Imports & Exports

Imports and ExportsDubai Ports World is a global force when it comes to the transportation of Imports & exports by sea. The company operates 50 container logistics locations around the world and is currently developing 11 more. In 2008, Dubai Ports World handled 46.8 million 20-foot equivalent units (TEU) and has announced plans to double its productivity over the next 10 years.

Dubai Ports World has been managing Imports and Exports for customers since 2005 when it was created by the merger of Dubai Ports International and Dubai Ports Authority. It currently operates in 31 different countries and is concentrating on growing its presence in territories such as India, the Middle East and China.

The main territory in which Dubai Ports World does not deal with Imports and exports is the US. After the firm was given permission to buy P&O, which in 2006, at the time of the deal, was the fourth largest port operator in the world; it found itself with substantial holdings on US soil.

However, Dubai Ports World sold off all of its P&O property after Congress voiced concerns about having an Arab owned company controlling port facilities along the east coast and in the Gulf of Mexico.

The logistics of handling Imports and exports is managed on a daily basis by the company’s 30,000 strong workforce based in 31 countries around the world. Dubai Ports World has administrative headquarters in Dubai and London.
